In a major push to strengthen digital inclusion in South Africa, Seseko, in partnership with Microsoft South Africa , has completed the first phase of its AI, Robotics and Coding Programme, reaching 48 under-resourced schools across all nine provinces.
The initiative introduces learners to future-focused skills such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and coding—areas increasingly essential in the global job market. With more than 70% of future jobs expected to require digital competencies, the programme aims to prepare learners early for a technology-driven economy.
Participating schools were equipped with robotics kits and CAPS-aligned learning materials to support practical, hands-on learning. Teachers also received specialised training and SACE accreditation, ensuring that digital skills can be sustainably integrated into classroom teaching.
The programme also addresses broader socio-economic challenges by creating employment opportunities for 96 youth facilitators deployed nationwide. These facilitators support teachers, assist in lesson delivery, and help keep learners engaged while gaining valuable work experience themselves.
By combining infrastructure support, teacher development, and youth employment, the initiative provides a scalable model for digital education in South Africa, where many schools still face gaps in access to technology and learning resources.
Commenting on the milestone, Seseko CEO Bradley Maseko said the programme is designed to unlock learner potential and bridge the digital divide, adding that the partnership with Microsoft demonstrates the impact of collaboration in building future-ready education systems.
Following the success of this first phase, Seseko and Microsoft South Africa plan to expand the programme to more schools, with the goal of deepening digital skills development in underserved communities across the country.
