A French Navy officer went for a run on the deck of the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier and uploaded his workout to Strava, inadvertently leaking the location of the nuclear-powered warship as it heads to the Middle East. First reported by French newspaper Le Monde, the story is not an anomaly — this popular fitness tracking app has proven to be a privacy nightmare before. A newly published survey of more than 500 science conference presentations across a two-year period set out to determine whether scientists are funny, which is itself funny, if not the most productive use of time. The results were about what you’d expect: two-thirds of attempts at humor garnered either polite chuckles or straight-up dead silence, and only 9% landed well enough to get most of the room laughing. This week, a topic that has been boomeranging around Silicon Valley bounced into the spotlight: AI tokens as compensation. The idea is straightforward enough — rather than giving engineers only salary, equity, and bonuses, companies would also hand them a budget of AI tokens, the computational units that power tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini. The Oppo Find N6 claims to have solved the biggest issues for foldables – it has made the crease basically invisible. Pinterest’s CEO, Bill Ready, has called for governments to ban social media for users under 16 in a new Time op-ed.
