On March 21, 2006, Jack Dorsey posted a simple message: “just setting up my twittr”. That was, of course, the very first post on the site that is still best known as Twitter, even after being renamed X by its new owner Elon Musk (the deal is still being fought over in court). X then became part of Musk’s xAI, which itself has become part of SpaceX. Musk cut the company’s workforce dramatically and spurred new controversies by incorporating xAI’s chatbot Grok, which dubbed itself “MechaHitler” and was used to create widespread sexual deepfakes, including of real women and children.…

According to one of the Lux Optics co-founders, who’s also the developer behind the Halide camera app, Apple was close to acquiring Lux Optics in an attempt to improve its native Camera app. Lux Optics is also behind the Kino, Spectre and Orion apps. AI is creating a crisis for young people trying to enter the workforce. Hiring has slowed. And several companies—including Amazon, Block, and Meta—have embraced tech’s latest era of layoffmaxxing, with some cutting their staff by 20 percent. So when Anthony lands a temp position at Rockin’ Grandma’s Hot Sauce, a small business in Southern California, he’s just happy for what he assumes is a regular gig: assisting with…
When Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took the stage for his annual GTC keynote on Monday, the $4-trillion-dollar company’s stock started to drop. Wall Street investors, it seems, were unmoved by the leather jacket-clad founder’s bullish 2.5-hour speech. Instead, they placed more weight on AI’s uncertain future and fears of a bubble. The nervousness felt by Wall Street couldn’t be more different than the buzzy atmosphere in Silicon Valley, where confidence, not uncertainty abounds. Huang talked for more than two hours about the company’s latest innovations, from new video game graphics tech and updated networking infrastructure to autonomous vehicle deals and…

Xiaomi 13T Pro and Poco F5 owners across the globe are reporting that a HyperOS 3 update is now being pushed. Interestingly, this isn’t the first HyperOS 3 update for the Xiaomi 13T Pro. The device received it more than a month ago, but the software was quickly rolled back due to random bootloops and reboots. Hopefully, the issue has been resolved by now, and the new HyperOS 3 update based on Android 16 is stable enough for users to install it. If you still haven’t received a notification about the update, you can check manually via the Settings menu.…

An anonymous Substack post published this week accuses compliance startup Delve of “falsely” convincing “hundreds of customers they were compliant” with privacy and security regulations, potentially exposing those customers to “criminal liability under HIPAA and hefty fines under GDPR.” Delve is a Y Combinator-backed startup that last year announced raising a $32 million Series A at a $300 million valuation. (The round was led by Insight Partners.) On Friday, the startup attempted to refute the accusations with on its blog, calling the Substack post “misleading” and saying it “contains a number of inaccurate claims.” The Substack post is credited to…
