Cohere, the Canada-based enterprise AI unicorn, announced Friday that it would merge with the Germany-based enterprise AI company Aleph Alpha. The deal, which has yet to close, will value the newly formed company at $20 billion, the FT reported. Schwarz Group, one of Aleph Alpha’s top backers, will also invest $600 million in Cohere’s Series E round, which is expected to close later this year, CNBC reported. A handful of Silicon Valley players continue to dominate the AI commercial landscape, which is busy with consolidation activity. A press release announcing the Cohere-Aleph Alpha union said one goal of the merger was to…
Right, pull up a chair, get the kettle on, and let’s have a proper chat. We’re in 2026, and frankly, I’ve had enough. I’m sick of smartphones that are essentially £1,000 mirrors that happen to run WhatsApp. I’m sick of my eyes feeling like they’ve been sandblasted and then dunked in vinegar after twenty minutes of scrolling through the latest social media bin-fire. Usually, when a new device lands on the Coolsmartphone desk, it’s a familiar dance. You unbox a glass slab that looks exactly like the one you bought in 2024, you worry about getting a fingerprint on the…
Palantir has helped the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigations office probe a variety of financial crimes in the U.S. for much of the last decade, The Intercept reported. The IRS has paid the firm $130 million since 2018 to use its data analysis software to pore over financial records for investigative purposes, the outlet reported, citing public records detailing Palantir’s IRS contract that were obtained by the nonprofit watchdog group American Oversight. It was previously known the IRS was using Palantir’s products, and that the agency sees the software as a way to automate and modernize audits. Last summer, it…

Snabbit, an Indian instant house-help startup, is close to raising fresh funding at a valuation of around $400 million in a round led by Susquehanna Venture Capital, TechCrunch has learned. The Bengaluru-based startup is in talks to raise around $50 million in the round, according to three people with knowledge of the deal. One of the people added that the round could be around $55 million or higher, as strong investor demand may prompt the company to raise more than initially planned. Poco knows its audience – that’s what we get from last week’s poll. For this year’s X series, the company added a new class, the Pro Max, and it completely overshadowed the regular Pro. Poco X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max at a glance The Poco X8 Pro Max is going to be a hit – the budding flagship killer got an overwhelmingly positive response in our poll. It got knocked for its camera – people still remember the 108MP shooter on the X5 Pro – and for still featuring a USB 2.0 port. But this applies…
As Apple races to stay competitive in AI while navigating tariffs and supply chain uncertainty, the company’s future is about to shift under new leadership. On Monday, Apple announced that John Ternus will take over as CEO later this year, succeeding Tim Cook. Cook transformed Apple into a $4 trillion global powerhouse, expanded its services business, and oversaw some of the most profitable years in tech history. Ternus brings a different kind of skillset. A longtime hardware executive, he has spent his career building Apple’s devices rather than managing the broader business. Ternus joined Apple in 2001 and rose through…
Today, we are taking a look at the new OnePlus Pad 4, the company’s latest premium Android tablet. But first, let’s do a quick unboxing. The OnePlus Pad 4 packaging is very simple, and comes in the familiar red and white colorway. Inside, the tablet itself takes very little of the vertical room, thanks to its slim 5.94mm profile. Most of the height is taken up by the 80W fast charger, along with the matching cable. There’s not much else in the box. The OnePlus Pad 4 is a relatively straightforward iterative update over the OnePlus Pad 3. It replaces…
You open your phone to check the time or a quick message. The next thing you know, an hour has passed and you’ve scrolled through endless celebrity drama, cat videos, awful news stories, influencer rants, and whatever else the algorithm decided to throw at you. Even though you probably don’t want to keep wasting your time and energy on this mind-numbing content, you do it again the next day. Doomscrolling, the habit of spending excessive amounts of time consuming content on social media, has become incredibly widespread. A survey from last year found that 64% of Americans say they doomscroll. …
