KDDI, which is a company that provides IoT services and connected experiences to its OEM partners, has a partnership with BMW Group. KDDI, on the other hand, also has a long-standing relationship with Verizon, which in turn provides 5G and LTE connectivity. That’s why Verizon just made its partnership with BMW Group and KDDI official. The newly formed partnership means that Verizon provides its 5G Standalone Connected Vehicles services to BMW, so all new BMW vehicles produced for the US markets will make use of Verizon’s cellular network. The press release doesn’t explicitly say which are the new models that…

Image Credit: Philips EvniaPeople shopping for a dual-mode gaming monitor often wonder whether they’ll play enough competitive games at a high refresh rate, and enough single-player titles in 4K, to justify paying the premium. I lean toward an ultra-high-refresh-rate 1080p because a standard 4K monitor doesn’t do much for me. My weekends revolve around Call of Duty, where sharp motion and quick target tracking matter more than extra pixels. And I feel like you also prefer either crystal-clear visuals or buttery-smooth transitions. So, in my eyes, the only situation where a dual-mode display makes sense involves creative professionals who spend the day…
European Commission says Instagram and Facebook’s addictive design breaches the Digital Services Act
Today, the European Commission (EC) has announced that it has preliminarily found Meta in breach of the EU’s Digital Services Act for what it calls “the addictive design of Instagram and Facebook”. Specifically, its investigation focuses on features like infinite scroll, autoplay, push notifications, and the services’ “highly personalized recommender systems”. The EC’s investigation indicates that Meta “did not adequately assess the risks of its addictive design on the physical and mental wellbeing of users, including minors and vulnerable adults”. Highly personalized recommendations, autoplay, and infinite scroll “fuel the user’s urge to keep scrolling and shift the brain into ‘autopilot…
Apple filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its hardware chief on Friday for allegedly stealing the iPhone maker’s trade secrets, including unreleased parts and prototypes, confidential designs, and documents about stealth projects. The lawsuit accuses OpenAI chief hardware officer Tang Tan, who spent 24 years at Apple and oversaw iPhone product design, and his colleagues at the AI company of encouraging people departing or considering leaving Apple to bring with them proprietary and unreleased technology. Tan allegedly helped coach recruits on how to evade Apple’s data security protocols and directed them to bring confidential Apple parts to job interviews at OpenAI.“OpenAI’s…
Facebook parent company Meta today announced the official rollout of Muse Image, a new image generation model developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs. Available directly within Meta AI, the new model lets users create images by using prompts, which they can then download or share. Meta says that Muse Image builds on the foundation of Muse Spark, which also allows users to “co-create” with the assistant by using presets, using @ mentions to insert personal photos into creations, and sketching edits directly onto images. One crucial bit of info to take into consideration though is that the model gives users sample…

iRobotI love my robot vacuum. It runs while I’m at work, it empties itself, and I usually never think about it. But robots are bad at one specific job: the moment right after your kid drops a bowl of cereal and someone’s arriving in twenty minutes. That’s a job for something you push yourself. After years of creating only robot vacuums, iRobot just built one of those machines. It’s meant to fill the gap when your floors need a quick clean, but the robot’s not scheduled for another hour. Dyson, for its part, has had a similar vacuum on the market…
According to Digital Chat Station on Weibo, one of Apple’s usual battery suppliers just had a pair of batteries certified together, which means they are intended for a foldable smartphone (since these have split batteries due to the form factor). The batteries in question have a rated capacity of 1,921 mAh and 2,962 mAh, respectively, giving us a grand total of 4,883 mAh. This is rated capacity, which means the typical advertised capacity will be 5,000 mAh. So that’s most likely what the iPhone Ultra will boast. iPhone Ultra speculative render Interestingly, it’s on par with the rumored battery capacity…
