With more and more software developers integrating agentic AI into their products, it was only a matter of time before we saw it make its way to more “mainstream” situations. Take for example Google’s newest update, which brings new agentic functionality to AI Mode in Search to help people book restaurant reservations much quicker.
The update is rolling out for users in the United Kingdom, and lets users describe what kind of restaurant they’re after, along with other details. For example, a user can ask for a pet-friendly Italian restaurant in a specific part of town that’s open on Sundays at a particular time, or any other variation of needs and wants. Search will then present users with a curated list along with direct links, allowing them to finalize their booking.
The new agentic search function will also support platforms and partners including TheFork, SevenRooms, ResDiary, Mozrest, Foodhub, Dojo, DesignMyNight and OpenTable. As per Google’s official announcement:
Users are turning to Google with increasingly detailed requests to find restaurants that meet their specific needs. Google Trends shows searches for “when to book a table” have surged 140% this year, as diners look for spots that can accommodate group sizes, dietary needs, and more. Starting today, AI Mode helps take the hassle out of finding and securing reservations at restaurants across the UK.
