Ethio Telecom has conducted a nationwide awareness and capacity-building program for senior judicial and law enforcement officials aimed at strengthening telecommunications security, protecting critical digital infrastructure and combating telecom and financial fraud.
Held under the theme “Ethio Telecom and Justice Institutions Partnership for a Secure Digital Ethiopia,” the training sessions took place in Dire Dawa, Hawassa and Adama, bringing together 171 judges, prosecutors and police officers drawn from federal and regional institutions.
The initiative forms part of Ethio Telecom’s broader efforts to support Ethiopia’s digital transformation by ensuring the security and sustainability of the country’s rapidly expanding telecommunications infrastructure. Alongside ongoing investments in 4G and 5G network expansion, the company says collaboration with justice institutions is essential to safeguarding the digital ecosystem and maintaining public trust in digital services.
The program focused on preventing telecom and financial fraud, addressing crimes committed through digital platforms and strengthening legal and institutional responses to attacks on telecommunications infrastructure.
Participants said the training enhanced their understanding of technology-related crimes and the legal frameworks needed to address them effectively. They also reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with Ethio Telecom to protect national telecommunications assets and strengthen efforts to prevent digital and telecom-related crimes.
Ethio Telecom said it plans to expand similar programs to additional cities across the country as part of its commitment to supporting a secure, resilient and trusted digital economy.
As Ethiopia accelerates its digital transformation agenda, the initiative underscores the growing importance of cooperation between telecommunications operators, law enforcement agencies and judicial institutions in protecting critical digital infrastructure and strengthening cybersecurity resilience.
