Korean tech giant Samsung recently announced that it’s been working on a number of new AI-based health features, which the company intends to brings to users via the Samsung Health app and its Galaxy Watch wearable devices. Senior Vice President and Digital Health Team Chief Hon Pak describes the change as an evolution to “connect health data with AI-based insights.”
With that in mind, the update rolls out globally on June 8, and essentially changes how the Samsung Health app reads biometric data. For example, one new feature called Vitals can track different bio-signals including heart rate variability, skin temperature, and respiratory rate against a user’s personal baseline. The app will then use a notification system which alerts users only when a significant deviation suggests oncoming illness or physical exhaustion.
Samsung is also replacing its Vascular Load feature with a unified Heart Health Score, which combines sleep, stress, and activity data with body composition metrics to give users an idea of their vascular wellness. The app also introduces Daily Cardio Load which measures cardiovascular strain against maximum training capacity during workouts. Meanwhile, the new Fitness Index compares a user’s VO2 max and activity levels against similar demographic data.

The update also changes Samsung Health’s UI, which will now feature Sleep, Activity, Nutrition, Mindfulness, and Vitals. The new layout will display AI-based Energy Scores and wellness tips on the home screen.

As for deep-health tracking, the Antioxidant Index now includes trend charts linking dietary habits to physical responses, while the AGEs index will record metabolic data overnight to track long-term lifestyle impacts. Samsung adds that it’s expanding its ecosystem safety features with a new Hearing Health tool, which works via the Galaxy Watch to monitor ambient noise and protect users from hearing damage.
