Zambia is seeking to strengthen border management and regional trade through a new strategic partnership between SMART Zambia Institute and TradeMark Africa. The two organizations held discussions in Lusaka on June 15 aimed at modernising border systems, improving trade facilitation, and enhancing digital connectivity along the country’s major trade corridors.
The meeting brought together TradeMark Africa National Coordinator and Regional Director Hope Situmbeko, SMART Zambia National Coordinator Percy Chinyama, and Government Chief Technical Officer Kasali Musenge. Discussions focused on the use of digital technologies to improve efficiency at border posts, streamline cross-border processes, and support greater regional integration.
Officials from both organizations emphasized the importance of collaboration in deploying digital solutions that can reduce trade bottlenecks, facilitate the movement of goods and services, and strengthen economic connectivity within the region. The partnership is expected to support Zambia’s broader digital transformation agenda while improving the competitiveness of its trade infrastructure.
According to the parties, the engagement marks an important step toward building a long-term framework for border modernisation and digital trade facilitation. By combining SMART Zambia’s e-government expertise with TradeMark Africa’s experience in trade and logistics reforms, the initiative aims to unlock new opportunities for regional commerce and economic growth.
