The partnership has enabled Liquid Intelligent Technologies to rapidly distribute high-capacity bandwidth from its points of presence at Africa Data Centres and other major data centres in Nigeria to large enterprises located within and beyond the reach of fibre networks.
Taara, a graduate of X, Google’s Moonshot Factory and a provider of high-speed wireless optical communication technology, has announced the continuation of its collaboration with Liquid Intelligent Technologies , a business of Cassava Technologies, to expand high-capacity connectivity and strengthen network resilience across Nigeria.
The partnership has enabled Liquid Intelligent Technologies to rapidly distribute high-capacity bandwidth from its points of presence at Africa Data Centres and other major data centres in Nigeria to large enterprises located within and beyond the reach of fibre networks. The companies said the deployment addresses connectivity challenges in areas where traditional fibre installations can be expensive, time-consuming or vulnerable to prolonged outages caused by fibre cuts.
Over the past two years, Liquid has deployed nearly a dozen Taara wireless optical communication links across Lagos, providing high-speed connectivity to large enterprises while improving network resilience for internet service providers, banks, hotels and a utility company operating in key commercial districts.
The announcement comes as Nigeria’s growing economy drives increasing demand for reliable enterprise connectivity, particularly in Lagos, where expanding network infrastructure in densely populated urban areas remains challenging. To address these challenges, Liquid is using Taara’s technology to complement existing fibre infrastructure and extend connectivity across difficult terrains.
Using highly focused beams of light to transmit data through the air, Taara enables operators to establish high-capacity links within days rather than weeks, allowing faster customer deployments while enhancing network redundancy. The companies are now exploring opportunities to expand the technology into other Nigerian cities, including Abuja, Ibadan and Kano.
Commenting on the deployment, Eugene Uka, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Liquid Intelligent Technologies Nigeria, said:
“For Liquid, deployment speed has been one of the most significant advantages. Traditional fiber deployments aren’t always a possibility, especially across difficult terrains. Taara links can often be installed and activated within hours, allowing Liquid to ensure it is remaining true to its mission to create a digitally connected future that leaves no African behind.”
Bhavesh Mistry, Regional Lead for Taara in Africa, highlighted the role of wireless optical communication in supporting network expansion alongside fibre infrastructure.
“As demand for connectivity continues to grow, operators need more flexibility in how they expand and reinforce their networks. Fiber remains an essential part of modern communications infrastructure, and will for some time, but there are many situations where deploying fiber quickly or cost-effectively can be difficult. Wireless optical communication gives operators another tool to extend capacity, reach customers faster, and build more resilient networks without compromising performance.”
Taara’s Lightbridge platform delivers up to 20 Gbps of capacity across distances of up to 20 kilometres using narrow, invisible beams of light. The technology enables operators to deploy high-capacity links without trenching, spectrum licensing or extensive civil works, helping bridge connectivity gaps in urban, rural and hard-to-reach environments. Taara Lightbridge is currently deployed in more than 20 countries with operators including T-Mobile, Airtel, Digicel, Liquid and SoftBank.
