Samsung recently announced that it’s brought over a new update to its Samsung Wallet app, which brings Digital Key access for select Porsche vehicles. The feature will be compatible starting with the Porsche Macan with planned expansion for more models including the Cayenne Electric next year.
With the update, drivers can now use the Wallet app on select Samsung Galaxy phones to lock, unlock, and start their vehicles. Woncheol Chai, EVP and Head of the Digital Wallet Team at the Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung comments:
We are pleased to bring Samsung Galaxy users a richer digital experience through our collaboration with Porsche… Connecting mobile phones and vehicles through Digital Keys reflects the seamless convenience that Samsung Galaxy stands for.
Samsung says that Porsche Digital Keys will be protected by EAL6+ grade security certification, which keeps keys securely embedded on a phone, and safe from unauthorized access. Users do have the option of sharing their Digital Key with trusted contacts through Samsung Wallet as well. Should a user lose their phone with their saved digital keys, they can then remotely lock or delete the key via Samsung’s Find service.
The update will arrive this month for users in Europe, to be followed by a global rollout for more Porsche vehicles.
